Anniversary celebration

On May 28, 2026, the Kreuzeckbahn cable car will celebrate its 100th anniversary – a whole century full of vision, pioneering spirit, and moving moments. What seems obvious today was a minor sensation in 1926: the founding of Kreuzeckbahn AG in 1925 marked the beginning of a new chapter in Alpine engineering history, and just one year later, Bavaria's first cable car began operating.

A historic day

To mark this special milestone, the new exhibition will be officially opened at the Kreuzeckbahn mountain station on May 28, 2026.

In the afternoon, locals, guests, and mountain enthusiasts are invited to be part of this historic day. Combo tickets for the anniversary celebration can be purchased online for 15 euro:

  • Ascent and descent with the Kreuzeckbahn
  • Guided tour of the mountain and valley stations, including a visit to the exhibition
  • One dish and one drink at Kandahar 2
  • Free parking

Guided tours will take place every half hour between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Due to capacity reasons, advance registration is required.

Tickets can be purchased in the online shop from the end of March.

The construction of the Kreuzeckbahn cable car not only created a means of transport, but also opened up an entire Alpine region in a sustainable way. Kreuzeck quickly developed into the starting point for tours to the Alpspitze and Höllental. At the same time, the cable car laid the foundation for the development of world-famous ski runs such as the Kandahar and Olympia runs. Major international events – including the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1978 and 2011 – would have been virtually inconceivable without this infrastructure. The Kreuzeckbahn thus became the driving force behind a development that brought the region worldwide renown.
