Winter experience
Winter-hiking in Garmisch-Classic
When skiing is not possible in the Alpspitz area (above Kreuzeck), the ski slopes are opened to pedestrians for winter hiking.
Important: As soon as skiing starts, the slopes are closed to pedestrians. The cable cars and the AlpspiX viewing platform can of course still be used.
At Live facilities, you can see at any time whether the Hochalmweg is currently open as a ski slope or not.

The winter round trip
The ticket for the ascent and descent with the Alpspitzbahn and Kreuzeckbahn cable cars also includes the ride on the Hochalmbahn cable car. Of course, the round trip can also be made in the opposite direction.
It is also possible to use individual lifts for an excursion to the Garmisch-Classic area.
Up with the Kreuzeckbahn
To start the tour, you can take the Kreuzeckbahn cable car for the first few meters in altitude.
- Starting point & arrival: By car, cogwheel train or local bus to the valley stations of the Kreuzeckbahn and Alpspitzbahn cable cars.
- Highlight: Take the cable car over the legendary Kandahar downhill run and enjoy the panoramic view over Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau.
By foot to Hochalm
From the Kreuzeckbahn mountain station, you continue on foot. After the Kreuzeckzubringer, you can either turn left along the wide, well-maintained Hochalmweg or right along a smaller path past the Längenfelderbahn. Both paths lead to the Hochalm and the valley station of the Hochalmbahn cable car.
- Walking time: approx. 30-40 minutes
- Highlight: Relaxed winter hiking in alpine terrain with spectacular views.
Up to the Osterfelderkopf
The Hochalmbahn cable car takes you up to the 2,057-metre-high Osterfelderkopf. Once there, you can explore the AlpspiX viewing platform or stop off at the Osterfelder 2000.
- Highlight: The AlpspiX viewing platform with an impressive view from Werdenfelser Land across the Höllental valley to the Zugspitze.
- Refreshment stop: At Osterfelder 2000 at the Alpspitzbahn mountain station, you can make yourself comfortable on the terrace or in the dining room with a magnificent view on the Alpspitze.
Back to the valley
The Alpspitzbahn cable car brings winter hikers back to the valley station and marks the end of the winter hiking tour.
- Highlights: Panoramic view of the valley and the surrounding mountains
- Refreshment stop: Café Kandahar 2, in the valley station of the Kreuzeckbahn, right next to the Alpspitzbahn
