Lockdown extension: no more skiing in 2020

The start of the season has been postponed due to the extension of the current Corona restrictions. The ski areas Zugspitze & Garmisch-Classic must remain closed.

Yesterday's decisions by the Bavarian Cabinet on the extended Corona restrictions have serious consequences for the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn (BZB): The season opening for the Zugspitze ski area must be postponed further. The facilities in the Garmisch-Classic ski area, which would have started operations in the course of December, will also remain closed.

Matthias Stauch, board member of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, regrets the regulation: "This decision is not only hard for us: Hotels, restaurants, ski schools and ski rentals in the city are also directly affected." The board has so far been optimistic about the coming ski season, as the summer was successful and the hygiene and safety measures had worked well.

The Zugspitze would have been ready for a season opening on November 13th. The weather, snow and slope conditions in Germany's highest ski area would have been ideal to welcome first skiers. The company is still sticking to the upcoming winter season: As soon as the official requirements allow, the BZB will re-open the facilities on the Zugspitze.

The company is currently examining the effects of the present Corona restrictions and is planning the course for the next few weeks. The BZB informs its guests as quickly as possible on the known channels.
