Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG (BZB) will begin operating the Wankbahn cable car on Good Friday, April 3, following the end of the ski season at Garmisch-Classic (last day of operation: March 29). Starting April 13, extensive renovation and maintenance work will be carried out on the cable cars at Zugspitze. 

Wankbahn cable car open from Good Friday

The Wankbahn cable car will begin its summer operations on Good Friday, April 3. Along with the lift, the Sonnenalm, the restaurant at the mountain station, will also open (open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), serving visitors regional specialties.

On Zugspitze: Renovation Work on the Gletscherbahn cable car

Starting April 13, there will be restrictions on the Zugspitze cable cars due to maintenance work. Extensive renovation work is scheduled for the Gletscherbahn cable car. The electrical control system and the drive motors will be completely replaced, and therefore the cable car connecting the summit with the Zugspitzplatt will be completely closed from April 13 to May 22. 

Dismantling of the Schneefernerkopf Lift completed – Charity Sale

Just before renovation work begins on the Gletscherbahncable car, guests on the Zugspitze will have an exclusive opportunity to purchase a memento of the recently dismantled Schneefernerkopf lift. On April 11th (weather depending), the BZB will hold a sale of one hundred original ski lift bars from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. right in front of the Sonnalpin restaurant. A lasting memory of the lift can be purchased for €40 per lift bar. The proceeds will then go to the Grainau Mountain Rescue Service and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Mountain Rescue Service.

Zugspitze Ski Resort Open Until May 3 – Restrictions Due to Maintenance Work

From April 13 until the end of the ski season on May 3, the Zugspitzplatt ski resort will be accessible only via the cogwheel train. Once the ski season ends on May 4, Zugspitzplatt will be inaccessible until May 22. Starting April 13, the Zugspitze summit will only be accessible via Cable car Zugspitze on weekends (April 18–19 and April 25–26). 
Starting Saturday, May 23, the Zugspitze will once again be accessible via all cable cars, Cable car Zugspitze, Gletscherbahn cable car and the cogwheel train.
