    FAQ Prices

Frequently asked questions about prices and discounts

Upon presentation of a disability card, visitors with a disability rating of 60 or higher or the “G” designation are eligible for a discount on regular round-trip tickets and day passes. Registered accompanying persons receive the same discount (no free ticket).

Children under 6 years of age ride for free when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children under 6 years of age also need a valid ticket when participating in a ski course.

Children ages 6 through 15 pay the child rate; teenagers ages 16 through 18 pay the youth rate. Family tickets or the “Child in the Family” rate are valid for children ages 6 through 18 when accompanied by at least one parent.

No, there is no special ticket for children with a severe disability card. For those with a disability rating of 60 or higher or the “G” designation, the general discount for people with disabilities applies. However, the standard children’s fares (especially family tickets) are usually the cheapest option.

Yes, the family ticket can also be used by grandparents with their grandchildren.

Yes, group discounts are available for 15 or more paying passengers. Please use the contact form for enquiries!

Special discounts for students, FSJ participants, and apprentices are available upon presentation of the appropriate ID for the 2-Peak Pass (pedestrians) or the Twin-Ticket (skiers). Regular rates apply to all other tickets; however, the reduced rate for youth and the family rate are available up to and including 18 years.

No, there are no special rates for seniors.

No. For legal reasons, leisure facilities such as mountain railways or ski resorts are not permitted to offer discounted rates to local residents.

If your voucher has a barcode with a number, you can enter this number in the online shop, and your voucher value will be credited to the shopping basket. If you have an older voucher without a barcode, it can only be redeemed for a ticket at a ticket counter.

Vouchers purchased through regular channels are valid for 10 years. The validity period for promotional vouchers or similar may differ. For most vouchers, the expiration date is printed next to the barcode. You can also check the current value and validity in the voucher shop.

For older gift vouchers without a code, you can send a photo to zugspitzbahn@zugspitze.de to check the value.

It is not possible to extend the validity beyond 10 years.

Luggage and freight can also be transported. Hand luggage such as a normal backpack or a briefcase/toolbox per person is free of charge. Anything above this will be weighed on site and charged separately. For larger freight, prior registration via zugspitzbahn@zugspitze.de is also required. Information on the exact freight rates is available on request.

There are no freight charges for strollers and wheelchairs.

Accompanying persons require a regular mountain railway ticket, which is not included in the freight rates.

    FAQ Tickets

Frequently asked questions about tickets and their validity

Whenever possible, we recommend purchasing tickets 2–3 days in advance through the online store. The Zugspitze ticket and daily ski passes are cheaper when purchased online in advance than at the on-site ticket counters. Tickets are usually also available at the on-site ticket counters. However, this contigent may be sold out on days with good weather, during school breaks, and on holidays.

No. The purchase of an online ticket does not include a seat reservation for a specific time. To avoid waiting times, we recommend that you start your ascent as early as possible on good weather days.

The Zugspitze can be reached by two different railways. The cogwheel train departs from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen train station and travels via Grainau and Eibsee to the glacier station at Zugspitzplatt. The Cable car Zugspitze runs from the valley station at Eibsee directly to the summit station. The Gletscherbahn cable car connects the summit station with Zugspitzplatt.

The Zugspitze ticket includes one ascent and one descent via the cable car or cogwheel train. The ticket can also be used for a round-trip journey via the cogwheel train, the Gletscherbahn cable car, and Cable car Zugspitze. The Gletscherbahn cable car can be used as often as desired on the day of your visit, and the return trip by cogwheel train from Eibsee to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is always included.

With a day-specific online ticket, guests can secure their ride in advance. If the daily quota is exhausted on days with good weather, vacations days or public holidays, ticket sales will be stopped both online and at the ticket offices.

On good-weather days, weekends and during holidays, there may be waiting times at the valley stations and in the restaurants. Our team on site will be happy to inform you about the current situation.

We recommend arriving as early as possible on fair-weather days to avoid waiting times. With an online ticket, transport is guaranteed in any case, even if ticket sales have to be discontinued.

There is no limited duration of stay on the mountain. Our regular opening hours apply.

Tickets purchased are only valid on the date booked. A refund or rebooking of tickets due to bad weather is not possible. We therefore recommend checking the weather forecast before buying the tickets.

A refund for not using the ticket for personal reasons is not possible. If you are unable to travel due to illness, please send a doctor’s certificate to verrechnung@zugspitze.de. Please also include your full name and ticket number(s). We will check your details as soon as possible and refund the ticket price if necessary.

A refund due to bad weather is not possible.

Mountaineers hiking to the Zugspitze can purchase tickets for the descent in advance through the online store. Alternatively, tickets can also be purchased at the cogwheel train station at Zugspitzplatt or at the summit shop at the summit station.

The descent can be made either from the summit station via Cable car Zugspitze or via the cogwheel train from Zugspitzplatt. One ride on the Gletscherbahn cable car is included in each option. In either case, it is also possible to take the cogwheel train from Eibsee back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Descent tickets for children and teenagers are available exclusively at the on-site ticket counters.

We also recommend purchasing mountaineering tickets 2–3 days in advance through the online store. If ticket sales in the valley are stopped on busy days, descent tickets will still be available on the mountain. On the Zugspitze, tickets can be purchased at the cogwheel train station at Zugspitzplatt or at the summit shop at the summit station.

No, transfers or refunds are not possible. Both the Twin-Ticket and the 2-Summit Pass are valid until the end of the current season. The date of purchase (or the date selected in the online store) is the first day of validity. The second day can be chosen freely within the current season. If the second day of validity has not been used by the end of the season, it expires.

Yes. The Twin-Ticket is a 2-day ski pass. It is valid for 2 days at Garmisch-Classic, 2 days at Zugspitze, or one day each at Garmisch-Classic and at Zugspitze.

Yes, that's possible in theory. However, the ticket's second day of validity will be forfeited since both areas have already been visited. We recommend visiting the two areas on different days.

The MVV Garmisch Summer Ticket and the ski pass are available at the Munich S-Bahn ticket machines and at the Munich S-Bahn customer service centers. When you present your ticket at one of our ticket counters on site, you will receive the mountain railway ticket you booked.

The Deutschland-Ticket is valid on the cogwheel train only on the valley route between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau; a separate ticket is required to continue on to Eibsee or the Zugspitze. It is not valid on the cable cars.

The number of available tickets to Eibsee is limited. Tickets for the cogwheel train valley route are available exclusively at the ticket counters and vending machines on site and cannot be reserved. On days with good weather, during school breaks, and on holidays, tickets may sell out. On such days in particular, we recommend arriving as early as possible.
