Dear guests,

we are happy to welcome you. Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, there will still be some regulations to stop the spreading of the Corona virus. Your health and the health of our employees are most important for us. Therefor we have developed a hygiene concept for our cable cars, the cogwheel train and our restaurants. But we also rely on the personal responsibility and solidarity of our guests.

From 11.09.2021 a Covid certificate is needed to use the cable cars, cogwheel train and indoor restaurants (proof of vaccination, recovery or current negative test). Therefore, please have your certificate ready at the cash desks on site.

All cables cars and the cogwheel train are in operation. 
If there will be changes, we will inform you here, on our website (live info area) and on social media.

Therefore, please have your certificate ready at the cash desks on site. Furthermore all guests must wear a medical face mask indoors as well as in the cable car cabins and in the cogwheel train.

From 11.09.2021 a Covid certificate is needed to use the cable cars, cogwheel train and indoor restaurants. This means that you have to have one of these proofs ready:

  • Vaccination certificate: proof of a complete vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus with one or more vaccines named by the Paul Ehrlich Institute.
  • Proof of recovery: Proof of previous infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus with a positive PCR test that is at least 28 days and a maximum of six months old.
  • Covid-19 test: negative PCR test that is not older than 48 hours or negative PoC antigen test that is not older than 24 hours.

On the valley route between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Eibsee, the cogwheel train runs as public transport. Guests who only travel on this route do not need a Covid certificate.
For visitors who want to go up Zugspitze, a Covid certificate is required from 11.09.2021 (proof of vaccination, recovery or current negative test).

All guests aged 6 and older must wear a medical face mask indoors as well as in the cable car cabins and in the cogwheel train. Children up to 6 years of age are exempt from the mask requirement.

A registration for contact tracking is not necessary when using the cable cars or cogwheel train.

At the restaurants, according to regulations of the Bavarian Government, all guest data must be recorded in order to ensure contact tracking. This happens when entering our restaurants either via the Luca app or contact forms.

RESTAURANTS

Our indoor and outdoor catering is open for our guests.

  • Kandahar 2 at the valley station of the Kreuzeckbahn cable car: A la carte service after placement by the service staff.
  • Sonnenalm at Mount Wank: A la carte service after placement by service staff.
  • Gletschergarten on the Zugspitz Plateau: A la carte service after placement by the service staff.
  • Sonnalpin on the Zugspitz Plateau: Self-service
  • Panorama 2962 at Zugspitze: Self-service.
  • Summit kiosk at Zugspitze: Self-service.

In all indoor restaurants it is mandatory to wear a medical face mask when entering. The mask may only be removed at the table. When leaving the table, for example when going to the toilet, the face mask must be worn again.

Tickets

Cable Car Zugspitze & cogwheel train 
You can buy Online Tickets for the Cable Car Zugspitze & cogwheel train to Zugspitze one to three days in advance in our webshop. Since the number of visitors per day is limited due to the reduced capacity, we recommend buying tickets in advance in the webshop. A remaining contingent of tickets is available at the ticket offices on site. This can, however, be exhausted, especially on days of good weather or on highly frequented days during the vacation time. Please check the weather report for your visiting day before buying the ticket, as a refund or rebooking is not possible.

Wankbahn cable car
Tickets for the Wankbahn cable car (ascent & descent) can be purchased in the webshop or at the cash desk on site. With a print@home ticket for the Wankbahn cable car you can directly enter the cable car without going to the cash desk. Tickets for partial journeys at the Wankbahn cable car (valley ride only, middle station to mountain station or similar) are only available on site at the cash desks.

Garmisch-Classic
Tickets for the cable cars in the Garmisch-Classic area (ascent & descent) can also be purchased in the webshop or at the cash desk on site. Tickets for partial journeys at the cable cars (e.g. only descent) are available on site at the cash desks.

With a day-bound online ticket, guests can get a guaranteed access. The Online Tickets are available one to three days in advance in our webshop. As soon as the daily quota of tickets is sold out, ticket sales online and at the cash desks will be completely stopped. Online tickets can only be purchased up to 8 p.m. on the previous day, but not on the day of the visit.

Your length of stay on the mountain is not limited. The cable cars and cogwheel train are in operation during the regular opening times.

Please note that due to the limited capacities, there may be waiting times at the cogwheel train, the cable cars and in the restaurants. Our on-site staff will be happy to inform you about the current situation. Should we have to stop selling tickets, we will inform you via our news area and via our information system on site.

Yes. At Zugspitze tickets for the descent are available in our summit shop on the ground floor of the summit station. On Mount Wank an in the Garmisch-Classic area, the descent ticket can be purchased at the ticket office at the mountain station or at the middle station.

A refund of tickets for personal reasons is not possible. If a journey cannot be started due to illness, we need a medical certificate from you. In this case, please send us an email to zugspitzbahn@zugspitze.de. Give us your ticket numbers, names and a copy of the medical certificate. We will then send you our reimbursement form. As soon as we have checked all the information, we will refund the ticket price. Refunds due to bad weather are not possible.

The purchased tickets are only valid on the date booked. A refund or rebooking due to bad weather is not possible. Since the tickets can be booked online three days in advance at the earliest, we recommend checking the weather report.

No. Online Tickets for Zugspitze can be booked three to one day in advance. On the one hand this is due to the weather forecast, on the other hand because eof the development of the incidence value. You can therefore book an Online Ticket for the day of your choice three days in advance at the earliest. Online Tickets can only be purchased up to 8 p.m. on the previous day, but not on the day of the visit anymore. If there are remaining tickets, those are sold at the cash desks on a daily basis.

It depends on what type of voucher you have. If your voucher has a barcode with a number, you can enter this number in the webshop and your voucher value will be credited to the shopping cart. If you have an older voucher without a barcode, it can only be redeemed for a ticket at the cash desk.

ACTIVITIES AT ZUGSPITZE

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer any guided glacier tours or technical tours on the Zugspitze. Our summer toboggan run on the Zugspitz Plateau is open regularly for you.

The border between Germany and Austria is open. Please be aware of the current entry and quarantine regulations of the states of Bavaria and Tyrol.

Yes. Guests of the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn can also use the restaurants and the Gletscherbahn cable car of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, but they also need a Covid certificate.

CAPACITIES IN THE CABLE CARS

With the reopening of the cable cars, the capacities in the cabins and trains are reduced, like in summer 2020.

Please note: Due to this reduced capacity, waiting times are expected, especially on busy days (weekends, holidays, nice weather). We ask for your patience and understanding in this regard. For Zugspitze there is a daily ticket contingent. If these are sold out, ticket sales will be stopped.

All cabins and buildings are cleaned regularly in accordance with the valid guidelines.

Regular hand hygiene is very important. Soap for washing your hands is available in our sanitary facilities. There are also disinfectant dispensers at the entrances to the valley stations and in the restaurants.

Our regular timetables apply. If necessary, our trains run at a higher frequency.

ARRIVAL & PARKING

Yes, the cogwheel train runs regularly from the Zugspitzbahnhof Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the glacier station at Zugspitze plateau.

SEASONAL & ANNUAL PASSES

No. Annual pass holders use the cable cars and cogwheel train without an additional ticket or prior registration.

Yes, pass holders can apply for a reimbursement for the lockdown closure. All information and the application form can be found under “Corona-Erstattung”. Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2021. We recommend submitting after the pass has expired, there are no disadvantages.

Sollte in der Wintersaison 2021/2022 eine 2G-Regelung in Kraft treten (ausschließlich geimpft und genesen) und der Passinhaber kann keinen der geforderten Nachweise vorlegen, ist eine Rückerstattung nicht möglich. Wir bitten dies vor dem Kauf eines Saison- oder Jahrespasses zu beachten.
