Frequently asked questions and answers about the current situation (08.06.2021)

Dear guests,
we are happy to welcome you again. Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, there will still be some regulations to stop the spreading of the Corona virus. Your health and the health of our employees are most important for us. Therefor we have developed a hygiene concept for our cable cars, the cogwheel train and our restaurants. But we also rely on the personal responsibility and solidarity of our guests.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

When the 7-day incidence is stable or declining below 100 in the district Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the cables cars and the cogwheel train are in operation. The current incidence values and regulations for Garmisch-Partenkirchen can be found on the website of the Landratsamt Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

All cables cars and the cogwheel train are in operation. Please note that many hiking trails are currently still closed due to the snow conditions. You can find information in the live area.

If there will be changes, we will inform you here, on our website (live info area) and on social media.

With the current 7-day incidence under 100 in the district Garmisch-Partenkirchen, visitors do not have to present a negative Covid-test, complete Covid-vaccination or Covid-recovery for using the cable cars / cogwheel train.

You currently do not need a negative Covid-test to use the cable cars or cogwheel train of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn.

All guests aged 15 and older must wear an FFP2 face mask indoors and in the designated outdoor areas. Children and adolescents between 6 and 15 years only need to cover mouth and nose. Children up to 6 years do not need to wear a face mask.

All visitors (aged 15 and older) of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn have cover mouth and nose correctly with an FFP2 mask within all buildings, all waiting areas, the outdoor catering (not at the table) as well as in the cable car cabins and in the cogwheel train.
Children and adolescents between 6 and 15 years only need to cover mouth and nose. Children up to 6 years do not need to wear a face mask.

A registration for contact tracking is not necessary when using the cable cars or cogwheel train.

At the restaurants, according to regulations of the Bavarian Government, all guest data must be recorded in order to ensure contact tracking. This happens before entering our restaurants either via the Luca app or contact forms.

RESTAURANTS

Our indoor and outdoor catering is open for our guests.

  • Summit kiosk at Zugspitze: Self-service.

According to the regulation of the Bavarian State Government, all guest data at restaurants must be recorded in order to ensure contact tracking. This happens before entering our restaurants either via the Luca app or contact forms.

Catering is not possible without registration. Our employees are pleased to provide you with information on site.

In all restaurants (including outside areas) it is mandatory to wear an FFP2 face mask when entering. The mask may only be removed at the table. When leaving the table, for example when going to the toilet, the FFP2 face mask must be worn again.

Tickets

Due to the Covid-regulations, there are only limited tickets per day available. We strongly recommend to book a ticket online in advance. At the on-site cash desk, it cannot be guaranteed that remaining tickets are still available for sale.

A booked online ticket is not linked to a reservation at a specific time. In order to avoid waiting times on days of good weather, we recommend the ascent as early as possible. Please check the current weather forecast before buying, booking changes or cancellations due to bad weather or illness are not possible.

Cable Car Zugspitze & cogwheel train to Zugspitze
You can buy Online Tickets for the Cable Car Zugspitze & cogwheel train to Zugspitze one to three days in advance in our webshop. Since the number of visitors per day is strictly limited due to the 
reduced capacity, we urgently recommend buying tickets in advance in the webshop. This is the only way to guarantee access in advance. It cannot be guaranteed whether remaining tickets will be available at the cash desk on site at the day of your visit. Please check the weather report for your visiting day before buying the ticket, as a refund or rebooking is not possible.

Wankbahn cable car
Tickets for the Wankbahn cable car (ascent & descent) can be purchased in the webshop or at the cash desk on site. With a print@home ticket for the Wankbahn cable car you can directly enter the cable car without going to the cash desk. Tickets for partial journeys at the Wankbahn cable car (valley ride only, middle station to mountain station or similar) are only available on site at the cash desks.

Garmisch-Classic
Tickets for the Garmisch-Classic cable cars (ascent & descent) can be purchased in the webshop or at the cash desk on site. Tickets for partial journeys in the Garmisch Classic area (valley ride only) are only available on site at the cash desks.

 

With a day-bound online ticket, guests can get a guaranteed access. The Online Tickets are available one to three days in advance in our webshop. As soon as the daily quota of tickets is sold out, ticket sales online and at the cash desks will be completely stopped. Online tickets can only be purchased up to 8 p.m. on the previous day, but not on the day of the visit.

Since the number of visitors per day is strictly limited due to the reduced capacity, we urgently recommend buying tickets in advance in the webshop. Please note that due to the limited capacities, there may be waiting times at the cogwheel train, the cable cars and in the restaurants. Our on-site staff will be happy to inform you about the current situation. Should we have to stop selling tickets, we will inform you via our news area and via our information system on site.

Yes. At Zugspitze tickets for the descent are available in our summit shop on the ground floor of the summit station. On Mount Wank and in the Garmisch-Classic area, the descent ticket can be purchased at the ticket office at the mountain station or at the Wank middle station.

A refund of tickets for personal reasons is not possible. If a journey cannot be started due to illness, we need a medical certificate from you. In this case, please send us an email to zugspitzbahn@zugspitze.de. Give us your ticket numbers, names and a copy of the medical certificate. We will then send you our reimbursement form. As soon as we have checked all the information, we will refund the ticket price. Refunds due to bad weather are not possible.

The purchased tickets are only valid on the date booked. A refund or rebooking due to bad weather is not possible. Since the tickets can be booked online three days in advance at the earliest, we recommend checking the weather report.

No. Online Tickets for Zugspitze can be booked three to one day in advance. On the one hand this is due to the weather forecast, on the other hand because eof the development of the incidence value. You can therefore book an Online Ticket for the day of your choice three days in advance at the earliest. Online Tickets can only be purchased up to 8 p.m. on the previous day, but not on the day of the visit anymore. If there are remaining tickets, those are sold at the cash desks on a daily basis.

It depends on what type of voucher you have. If your voucher has a barcode with a number, you can enter this number in the webshop and your voucher value will be credited to the shopping cart. If you have an older voucher without a barcode, it can only be redeemed for a ticket at the cash desk.

ACTIVITIES AT ZUGSPITZE

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer any guided glacier tours or technical tours on the Zugspitze. Our summer toboggan run on the Zugspitz Plateau is open regularly for you.

The border between Germany and Austria is currently open. Please be aware of the current entry and quarantine regulations of the states of Bavaria and Tyrol.

Yes. Guests of the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn can also use the restaurants and the Gletscherbahn cable car of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn.

CAPACITIES IN THE CABLE CARS

With the reopening of the cable cars, the capacities in the cabins and trains are reduced, like in summer 2020.

Please note: Due to this reduced capacity, waiting times are expected, especially on busy days (weekends, holidays, nice weather). We ask for your patience and understanding in this regard. For Zugspitze there is a daily ticket contingent. If these are sold out, ticket sales will be stopped.

All cabins and buildings are cleaned regularly in accordance with the valid guidelines.

Regular hand hygiene is very important. Soap for washing your hands is available in our sanitary facilities. There are also disinfectant dispensers at the entrances to the valley stations and in the restaurants.

With the reopening on May 21st, the cogwheel train and cable cars run according to the regular timetables. If necessary, the trains will operate at a higher frequency.

ARRIVAL & PARKING

At https://zugspitze.de/de/Service/Anreise you can find timetables for the Eibsee bus, the cogwheel train to the Eibsee station and further information on traveling by Deutsche Bahn.

Yes, the cogwheel train will run to the Zugspitz Plateau.

The Eibsee-Verkehrsgesellschaft is currently also returning to the regular schedule for the Eibsee bus.

SEASONAL & ANNUAL PASSES

No. Annual pass holders use the cable cars and cogwheel train without an additional ticket or prior registration.

Yes, pass holders can apply for a reimbursement for the lockdown closure. All information and the application form can be found under “Corona-Erstattung”. Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2021. We recommend submitting after the pass has expired, there are no disadvantages.
