Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG

From historic mission to modern service company

Ropeway technology, comfort and the range of experiences around Germany’s highest peak have made quantum leaps since the cogwheel train first made its way to the Zugspitz Plateau in 1930. The driving force behind Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG remains the same today as it ever was: to make the mountain experience available to everyone all year round.

As a modern service company with a total of 27 mountain cableways and ski lifts, as well as seven food outlets of its own, the company transports people to higher spheres in comfort, treating them to very unusual impressions and moments of pleasure. Thanks to their proximity to Munich and the excellent rail and road connections, the Zugspitze, the Garmisch-Classic resort and Panoramic Mount Wank are an extremely popular local recreation area and a world-famous destination.

Lift facilities that make an impression

In the Garmisch-Classic and Zugspitze ski resorts with their guaranteed snow, winter sports fans of every discipline enjoy a total of 60 km of perfectly groomed slopes, plus a snow park, children’s area, toboggan slopes and delightful places to eat. The icing on the cake for experienced skiers is the legendary Kandahar slope, the annual venue for the downhill races of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. In the summer, it is mountain climbers, day-trippers, families with children and seniors who enjoy all the mountain has to offer.
Whether high-Alpine mountain tours, hikes of varying difficulty or a visit to the spectacular AlpspiX viewing platform on the Osterfelderkopf: the lines operated by Bayerische Zugspitzbahn reliably bring people up, revealing fascinating landscapes of pristine beauty.

Historic mission

The times when Germany’s mountains could only be enjoyed by mountaineers and a wealthy minority are fortunately in the distant past. Back in the 1920s, far-sighted mountain lovers came up with a “historic mission”: everyone should be able to participate in the mountain world experience! We also feel bound by this requirement – and gladly took the necessary steps that mean people with disabilities can now enjoy the mountain air with ease.

The very first summer visitors appreciated the enormous health value of mountain air. They have been joined by a wide variety of winter sports fans over the years. For us, fulfilling the historic mission also means paving the way for people to enjoy classic and modern mountain experiences – and this remains the vision and mission of Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG. As a modern service company with around 450 employees, we welcome guests from all over the world year-round, enabling them to have extraordinary mountain adventures. Our greatest reward: smiling faces on the mountains from big and small, young and old!
