Ski operation without 2G-restrictions

22/03/2022

At the end of the season, there will be relaxation of the restrictions due to the corona virus in the ski areas of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn: the 2G access restriction will no longer apply to cable cars and lifts.

All information and current regulations can be found in the FAQ.

  • Proof of vaccination, recovery or negative test is no longer required for cable cars, the cogwheel train as well as for gastronomy.
  • An FFP2 mask must still be worn in closed buildings, in cable car cabins (including valley and mountain stations), in the cogwheel train and in restaurants.

From Thursday, March 24th, 2022, the corona restrictions will be further relaxed in the Garmisch-Classic area, just like on the Zugspitze. The 2G/3G proof requirement is completely dispensed for (ski) guests. This means that guests can use the cable cars and lift systems without showing a proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test. Access to the cogwheel train is also no longer restricted.

In the restaurants, a 3G proof (vaccination, recovery or a negative test) is required in combination with a valid ID document. The proof is checked by the service staff and takes place, depending on the location, directly at the entrance or at the table.

The FFP2 mask requirement persists partially

The Bayerische Zugspitzbahn has decided to maintain the FFP2 mask requirement in certain areas. The already familiar known mask requirement remains on the cogwheel train, in all buildings (including mountain and valley stations of the cable cars), in the restaurants and in all closed cable car cabins. However, wearing a mask is not required anymore in the outdoor waiting and queuing areas or in the open chairlifts and T-bar lifts.

Turbulent ski season is coming to an end

Despite all the challenges, the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn looks back positively on the past ski season. "For us, the most important thing was to be able to offer a ski operation at all," says CEO Matthias Stauch.
In the Garmisch-Classic, the last day of operation is planned for April, 3rd. The ski lifts on the Zugspitze run until May 1st.

Wankbahn cable car starts summer operation in mid-May

At the Wankbahn cable car major inspections are on the agenda this spring. The gearbox will completely be overhauled. It will be removed, disassembled into its individual parts, checked and reinstalled. Therefore, the Wankbahn cable car is expected to start summer operations in mid-May. Guests will soon receive more precise operating times at zugspitze.de, section "Live-Info Mount Wank".
