9-EURO-TICKET

No, the 9-Euro-ticket is only valid on local public transport, not on tourist trains.
Accordingly, the 9-Euro-ticket is only valid on the cogwheel train between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau. It does not entitle you to travel to the Eibsee or Zugspitze or to use the cable cars.
With the 9-Euro-Ticket you receive a free Skidata-Ticket at one of our ticket offices, which works at the turnstiles.

The cogwheel train runs between Garmisch and Grainau on public transport. The 9-Euro-Ticket is valid on this route - but not to the Eibsee or Zugspitze.  The 9-Euro-ticket is also not valid in cable cars.
With the 9-Euro-Ticket you get a free Skidata-Ticket at one of our ticket offices, which works at the turnstiles.

Yes, the 9-Euro-ticket is valid on the Eibsee buses for the entire route from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Eibsee.

Yes. June, July and August are high season months. Waiting times are always to be expected here on nice weather days. Please note that this situation may be exacerbated by the 9-Euro ticket.
An extension of the timetable during these months is not possible due to the given infrastructure.

As usual in the high season, intermediate trains or additional buses are used on the cogwheel trainand the Eibsee buses. An additional expansion of the offer compared to previous years is not possible due to the given infrastructure.

Yes, the 9-Euro-ticket can be bought at all ticket offices of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn. The ticket is only available in the current month (e.g. June ticket is available from June 1st) and is issued like regular monthly tickets on personalized KeyCards (plus € 2.00 deposit).

No, the 9-Euro-ticket does not work at the turnstiles (except tickets purchased from us). Therefore, upon presentation of the 9-Euro-ticket at our cash desks, guests receive a free Skidata ticket, which works at the turnstiles.

G7 SUMMIT (26. TO 28. JUNE 2022)

With the exception of the Alpspitzbahn cable car, all mountain railways will be in operation during the G7 Summit (or in the preparation and follow-up of the summit). However, short-term changes may still occur.

No, major restrictions are to be expected at almost all car parks in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area during the G7 Summit (26-28 June). The following is currently known for the areas of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, but this information is subject to change:

  • Hausberg car park: completely closed from the beginning of April to the end of July.
  • Kreuzeck / Alpspitzbahn car parks: From the beginning of June to mid-July, the majority of the parking areas are closed.
  • Wankbahn car park: Most of the parking areas are closed from mid-June to the beginning of July. The "Camp am Wank" camper van site is also closed from mid to the end of June.
  • Zugspitzbahnhof Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Most of the parking areas are closed from mid-June to the beginning of July.

From June 23 until June 28, tickets are only available at the on-site ticket offices. Online tickets are not available during this time.

A mask only needs to be worn on the cogwheel train between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau, as this section is part of the public transport system. In the cable cars and restaurants, we recommend wearing a mask when there are a lot of visitors, but it is no longer mandatory.

For a relaxed visit to the Zugspitze by cogwheel train, Gletscherbahn cable car & Cable car Zugspitze, an early arrival is highly recommended. The total duration of the stay depends on the size of the group, the programme points and the number of visitors on the day of the visit. 
However, you should plan at least 2-3 hours for the entire tour.

Dogs are allowed in our facilities. The transport of dogs in the cable cars and the cogwheel train costs a one-time fee of 6.00 €. The ticket can only be purchased on site at the ticket office.
Dogs do not have to be muzzled. However, out of consideration for other passengers, we recommend that dogs are muzzled in the large cabins and the cogwheel train.

Bicycles are not allowed on all our facilities.

Zugspitze: It is possible to take a stroller on the Cable car Zugspitze without any problems. The cogwheel train is unsuitable for taking pushchairs due to limited space and non-barrier-free entrances and exits.

Garmisch-Classic: Strollers can be taken on the Kreuzeck, Alpspitz and Hochalmbahn cable cars. The same applies to the Hausbergbahn cable car in winter.

Mount Wank: In general, strollers can be carried. Due to the small cabins, however, they may have a maximum width of 57 cm.

Zugspitze: The Cable car Zugspitze and the Gletscherbahn cable car are barrier-free and can be used with a wheelchair/rollator without any problems. The cogwheel train is unsuitable for wheelchair users due to the limited space available and the non-barrier-free entrances and exits.

Garmisch-Classic: The Kreuzeck, Alpspitz and Hochalmbahn cable cars can be used with a wheelchair/rollator (there may be a separate entrance). The same applies to the Hausbergbahn cable car in winter.

Mount Wank: In general, wheelchair users can use the Wankbahn cable car. However, due to the small cabins, only wheelchairs with a maximum width of 57 cm can be transported.

Zugspitze: Ski depots are available in the basement of the Sonnalpin restaurant during the winter season. These cost € 6.00  per day.

Garmisch-Classic: Ski depots are available in winter at the ski schools at the Hausbergbahn valley station. In addition, there is a rondel with lockers in front of the Garmischer Haus, which can be operated by inserting a coin.

ARRIVAL & PARKING

You can also reach our Zugspitze cogwheel train station in Garmisch and the valley stations of the cable cars comfortably and easily by bus & train all year round. 
At "Directions" you will find timetables for the cogwheel train, the Eibsee buses and further information on travelling by Deutsche Bahn.

A list of all parking areas and corresponding parking rates can be found at "Parking". For Eibsee in particular, we recommend using the bus & train in summer, as the parking fees are very high due to the demand.

During the day, motorhomes can be parked in the car park at the Zugspitz cogwheel train station in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, at the Kreuzeck / Alpspitz cable car and at the Hausberg car park. However, you cannot stay there overnight. For overnight stays, the camper van site "Camp am Wank" and the campsites in Grainau are available.

ONLINE TICKETS

You can buy mountain railway tickets online in our webshop three days in advance. Sales for the next day will stop at 8 p.m. the evening before. We recommend buying tickets for the Zugspitze in advance in the webshop. Tickets are usually still available at the ticket offices on site. However, these may be exhausted, especially on fine weather days, on holidays and public holidays.

A booked online ticket does not include a seat reservation at a specific time. To avoid waiting times, we recommend that you start your ascent as early as possible on fine weather days due to high demand.

Tickets purchased are only valid on the date booked. A refund or rebooking of tickets due to bad weather is not possible. As tickets can be booked online three days in advance at the earliest, we recommend checking the weather forecast.

Guests can secure guaranteed admission one to three days in advance via a day-linked online ticket. If the daily quota is exhausted on fair-weather days or on holidays and public holidays, ticket sales will be discontinued both online and at the ticket counters. On the day of the visit itself, it is no longer possible to purchase an online ticket; online sales will be discontinued at 8 p.m. the day before.

There is no limited length of stay on the mountain. Our regular opening hours apply.

On good weather days, weekends and during holidays, there may be waiting times at the valley stations and in the restaurants. Our staff on site will be happy to inform you about the current situation. We recommend arriving as early as possible on good weather days to avoid waiting times. With an online ticket, transport is guaranteed in any case, even if ticket sales must be discontinued. 

A refund due to personal reasons is not possible. If you are unable to travel due to illness, we will require a medical certificate from you. In this case, please send us an e-mail to zugspitzbahn@zugspitze.de. Tell us your ticket numbers, names and send us a copy of the medical certificate. We will then send you our refund form. Once we have checked all the details, we will refund the ticket price. A refund due to bad weather is not possible.

No. Online tickets can be booked at the earliest three days in advance - and at the latest by 8 p.m. the evening before.  Online tickets can no longer be purchased on the day of the visit itself; online sales are discontinued the evening before.

It depends on the type of voucher you have. If your voucher has a barcode with a number, you can enter this number in the Online Shop and your voucher value will be credited to the shopping basket. If you have an older voucher without a barcode, it can only be converted into a ticket at the ticket office.

Tickets for one-way rides (ascent or descent) can only be purchased at the ticket office on site. Descent tickets for climbers are always available at the ticket office at the top station, even if the sale of regular tickets has already been discontinued.

TARIFFS

With the Zugspitze Ticket you can use the cogwheel train, Cable car Zugspitze and Gletscherbahn cable car. The ticket includes a ride up and down the mountain, which can be taken either as a round trip on the Cable car Zugspitze or on the cogwheel train. You can use the Gletscherbahn cable car as often as you like on the day of your visit.

The ticket is available from Deutsche Bahn at DB ticket machines, in DB travel centres and in the ticket shop. On presentation of the ticket at one of our ticket offices, you will receive the mountain railway ticket you booked.

If the degree of disability is 60 per cent or more or "G", we grant ID card holders and their registered companion a reduction on the cable cars and the cogwheel train on uphill and downhill rides, round trips and ski passes upon presentation of the ID card.

Children under the age of 6 travel free when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Yes, group fares are available for groups of 15 or more paying persons. For enquiries, please send an e-mail to zugspitzbahn@zugspitze.de.

Yes, the 2 Peak Pass (summer) and the Twin Ticket (winter) are available at reduced rates for students. There is no student discount on other tickets. The rates can be found on our website under "Prices".

VOUCHERS

Vouchers purchased from us are automatically valid (without surcharge) until 31.12. of the third year from the date of issue.
For example: issue date March 2019 = can be redeemed until 31.12.2022.

After these three years, you can continue to redeem the voucher at the cash desk by paying the difference in price. The additional payment depends on the difference between the value at the time of issue and the value at the time of redemption.
For example: Issue stamp March 2019 = redemption with additional payment possible until 31.12.2029.

After more than 10 years, the voucher expire and can no longer be redeemed.

It depends on what type of voucher you have. If your voucher has a barcode with a number, you can enter this number in the Online Shop and your voucher value will be credited to the shopping basket. If you have an older voucher without a barcode, it can only be redeemed for a ticket at the cash desk.

Restaurants

In general, table reservations are not possible in self-service restaurants.
