Varied mountain experiences for active people
Hike, explore adventure trails, climb or even paraglide – all possibilities in the pristine alpine landscape between the Alpspitze, Kreuzeck and Hausberg. It’s quick and easy to get to the activity starting points thanks to modern ropeways in the idyllic region of pastures and mountains.
The Alpspitze, also known as the jewel of Werdenfelser Land, is majestically enthroned above the Garmisch-Classic area. A view that inspires relaxed and ambitious mountain lovers alike. You can soar over most of the difference in altitude on the Alpspitzbahn and Kreuzeckbahn lifts, arriving in just a few minutes at lush alpine pastures, craggy Wetterstein limestone, incredible rest spots and the most fantastic panoramic views in Germany.
There are hiking trails of every grade in the wild and romantic alpine landscape at the foot of the Alpspitze. There are many beautiful routes here with plenty of time to rest and enjoy the natural beauty, which are sure to suit day-trippers, seniors who love to hike and families with children. The Summit Adventure Trail around the Osterfelderkopf, the family-friendly Pleasure Adventure Trail from the top station of the Alpspitzbahn to the top station of the Kreuzeckbahn, the Geological Nature Trail or the climb to the imposing Höllental gorge, are all very popular. The cable cars cover the most difficult stages, whether ascending or descending, allowing you to conserve energy and be kind to your joints.
Experienced mountaineers and climbers head off from the top stations on high alpine routes over the easy-to-grip limestone. An array of high alpine routes, climbing areas and courses are waiting to be discovered just 15 minutes from the lifts. Specific routes are designated for families and beginners and for confident sports climbers. The multiple rope-length climbs in the Schöngängen cliffs, the Bernadeinwand wall or the Alpspitze north face and the extremely difficult Mauerläufersteig are definitely only for experienced climbers, while the well-known Alpspitz-Ferrata is an incredible B-grade mountain experience. After so much concentration and spent energy, climbers and mountaineers welcome the relaxed trip back into the valley on the cable car.
Passionate paragliders and those trying out the bird’s-eye perspective for the first time can use the cable cars for a convenient arrival at the launching points on the Osterfelderkopf or Kreuzeck. Thermal up-winds on warm days in the spring and summer carry solo and tandem fliers another 600 metres higher from here. Taking off from the summit of the Alpspitze is a real highlight for experienced paragliders – they reach the summit on foot via the Alpspitz-Ferrata climb.
