Breaking news: Wankbahn opening postponed
New opening date: May 1st.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG (BZB), an electronic component burned out during the test runs for the completely overhauled Wankbahn system. A replacement part now has to be ordered and installed, delaying the opening of the facility. The lift can therefore only be opened on May 1st and not on Good Friday, April 18th as planned. This is a major setback for the entire Wankbahn team after working through the whole winter to reopen at Easter.
"The whole team was initially very downcast after achieving a masterpiece under time pressure throughout the winter. However, the team is working flat out to get the Wankbahn back up and running as quickly as possible,” assures Karl Dirnhofer, Technical Director of the BZB.
Until the Wankbahn can reopen, the associated Sonnenalm in the mountain station will also remain closed. The Wankstüberl in the valley station has been open since April 7th.
