Opposite Germany’s highest mountain, Mount Wank (1,780 m) boasts unique scenic views. With its beautiful summit plateau, it is a popular destination for families in particular. The Wankbahn cable car takes visitors up to the summit.

during the Christmas holidays
The Wankbahn cable car is open for the duration of two weeks for Christmas and New Year (19.12.2025–06.01.2026). If there is enough snow, Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG grooms a toboggan run. The flat trails on Mount Wank are also popular with snowshoe hikers.
A special highlight at this time of year: the sunset rides. The Wankbahn cable car is open daily from 9.00 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. during the Christmas holidays. Guests enjoy particularly breathtaking views on the last few rides: the sunset and the city lights of Garmisch-Partenkirchen down in the valley.
