Glacier tours on the Zugspitze
Calling passionate explorers: expert glacier guides accompany interested visitors into the very heart of the fascinating world of ice and snow on the Zugspitze Plateau.
The tour runs from the Sonnalpin glacier restaurant to the edge of the ice on the Northern Schneeferner and, depending on the weather and condition of the glacier, a couple of metres out onto the ice. During the glacier tour, mini-geologists and budding amateur glaciologists will learn all the key facts about the glacier microcosm. You can then broaden your knowledge after the guided tour at the multi-media stations along the Glacier Adventure Trail.
In good company
The glacier tours last around three-quarters of an hour and are a free service provided by Bayerische Zugspitzbahn. They leave daily at 11am and 1.30pm from the terrace of the Sonnalpin restaurant (sturdy shoes required). In bad weather the glacier guides offer indoor tours about the technology and history of the Zugspitze.
