„Maria Heimsuchung“ Chapel
High and holy – Germany’s highest church
Nowhere else in the Federal Republic are you as close to heaven as in the „Maria Heimsuchung“ Chapel. Located close to the Zugspitze glacier at almost 3,000 metres above sea level, it has been defying wind and weather since its consecration in 1981 by the emeritus Pope Benedict XVI. This little house of God is a place of peace and reflection for all winter sports enthusiasts, glacier fans, sun worshippers and, of course, religious believers. Weather permitting, regular Catholic and Protestant Mass are celebrated here. Surrounded by the imposing mountain scenery, visitors will be filled with respect and reverence for its Creator.
